Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Competition Regulations
1. Participating Teams
Any team is eligible to register for participation in events that make up the Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Caribbean SUNSPLASH Series. In order to be eligible, participating teams must comply with the terms and conditions established in these competition regulations, as well as to complete the registration procedure for each tournament.
2. Confirmation of Participating Teams
Participating teams in Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Caribbean SUNSPLASH Series events must confirm their participation a minimum of 14 days before the event. In order to complete their final registration for Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Caribbean SUNSPLASH Series events the Sizzlin Sand event registration form must be submitted to the organizers with the names of the participating players on or before the stated deadline.
3. Competition Format
3.1 The competition format will be based on pool play followed by an 8 team single elimination phase.
3.2 Men and Women: A maximum of 32 teams per gender in each tournament.
3.3 The tournament will be played over two days (Saturday and Sunday).
3.4 Participating teams will be distributed according to their position based on Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball rankings.
3.5 Participating teams who do not have a Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball ranking will be distributed by a lottery system
3.5 In each tournament teams will be distributed according to the serpentine system.
3.6 All matches will be played according to the FIVB Beach Volleyball Rules of the Game in Force.
3.7 The Technical Director reserves the right to modify the format taking into consideration the number of teams participating, weather conditions and any other issues that may arise.
3.8 In the occurrence of consecutive matches to be played by one team, a maximum 45 minutes recuperation and resting period will apply except for extreme circumstances (weather conditions or force of nature) then the time will be reduced.
4. Ranking System and Points
4.1 Based upon the results of each tournament, participating players will accumulate points.
4.2 All participating players are eligible to receive points based upon their performance.
4.3 The point system is individual.
4.4 For points and ranking purposes of participating teams the total amount of individual points accumulated by both players of the team will be taken into consideration. The ranking and point system to be awarded in each tournament would be as follows:

4.5 The points to be awarded will be valid for 365 days. At the end of this period the points awarded would be subtracted based upon the date that the tournament was held during the previous year and new points will be added based upon the date that the tournament is held in the year in course.
4.6 The ranking will be based upon the results of the total points obtained in each tournament and accumulated during the series.
5. Participating team’s uniforms
5.1 The organizers will be responsible for providing playing uniforms for participating teams.
5.2 Uniforms provided by the organizers are mandatory in order to enter the competition and playing area, during the warm up prior to the match, during the match, during the award ceremony, press conference and any other official presentation to be held during the tournament.
5.3 In the event that playing uniforms are not provided each participating team has the right to use their own uniforms provided that the sponsors being promoted in their uniforms do not conflict with the sponsors of the tournament.
5.4 In case of conflict of sponsors offending uniforms will not be permitted in the competition or playing area, during the warm up prior to the match, during the match, during the award ceremony, press conference and any other official presentation to be held during the tournament.
5.5 Teams whose uniform are provided by the organizers of the tournament are not allowed to modify them or to cover the logos of the sponsors and logos of the tournament.
5.6 Participating team uniforms (sleeveless jersey and shorts for men and two or one piece bathing suit for women) must be of the same color, style and design and must comply with the FIVB Beach Volleyball Uniform Regulation.
5.7 Participating players are also allowed to use the following accessories:
a) Caps, visors, head band.
b) Sunglasses.
c) One watch.
d) Beach volleyball shoes or socks.
e) Therapeutic support braces for knee/elbow, etc.
f) Provisional tattoos, arm band (maximum one per arm).
6. Protest for Violation of the Rules of the Game
6.1 Protest for violation of the rules of the games will be accepted as long as they are presented to the Technical Director of the tournament by the captain of the team within twenty minutes after the end of the match.
6.2 All protest for violation of the Rules of the Game must be presented in writing to the Technical Director together with a deposit of US $25.00 dollars cash.
6.3 After hearing the parties involved in the action that originated the protest and after deliberating, the Technical Director and the Refereeing Supervisor must decide in accordance with the Rules of the Game in Force within one hour after having received the protest.
6.4 The decision adopted by the Technical Director and the Refereeing Supervisor will be final and unappealable and will be communicated to the captain of the team that presented the protest.
7. Inappropriate Conduct and Behavior
7.1 Members of a delegation (team managers, players and/or member) that commit unsportsmanlike and/or inappropriate behavior towards supervisors, directors, referees, organizers, players, court personnel, technical and support personnel, press and fans during the tournaments will be subject to sanction according to the scale established in the FIVB Code of Conduct, as well as and according to the provisions established in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Handbook.
7.2 The Technical Director is empowered to disqualify any player from a match and/or a tournament, according to the seriousness of the offense committed. Also he is empowered to expel a team delegation from the tournament in case of serious aggressions and/or unsportsmanlike behavior.
7.3 Any team that refuses to play against another team will be automatically expelled from the tournament and their results, as well as their cash award, will be cancelled. From that moment on all expenses incurred by the team expelled must be totally covered by the team delegation
8. Awards
8.1 At the end of each tournament teams will be awarded based upon their final position. The award ceremony will be conducted on Sunday after the final match within the facilities of the main competition court.
8.2 In both genders the first four teams of the tournament will be awarded.
8.3 The percentage of the cash awards to be paid in taxes to the government of the host country of the tournament, will be deducted and retained by the host National Federation of the tournament who will be responsible for the payment of the taxes.
8.4 In the event of the abandonment of a tournament due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances before all four semi-finalists are determined no cash awards will be presented.
8.5 In the event that a tournament has to be abandoned due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances after the four semi-finalists are determined and no further play can take place the cash awards will be divided equally among the four semi-finalists.
8.6 In the event that a tournament has to be abandoned due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances after the third and fourth place competitors are determined and no further play can take place the third and fourth place cash awards will be divided equally among the two teams.
8.7 In the event that a tournament has to be abandoned due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances after the finalist are determined and no further play can take place the cash awards for first and second place will be divided equally among the finalist.
8.8 Minimum cash awards in each tournament will be distributed as follows:

9. Fees
9.1 All applicable fees will be communicated to participants in advance of the start of the tournament.
9.2 All fees are must be paid in at the technical meeting and are non-refundable.
10. Preliminary Enquiry and Technical Meeting
10.1 During the preliminary enquiry for participating teams the players and members of the delegation will pay all fees, receive their official accreditation and if necessary their playing uniforms.
10.2 The General Technical Meeting will be held one day before the tournament.
10.3 Foreseen draws will be carried out during the General Technical Meeting.
10.4 Technical Director, Refereeing Supervisor, host National Federations officials and representatives, Referees, Medical Delegate, Press Delegate, Players, participating team members delegation, Sponsors, accredited National and/or International Journalist, as well as special guest, must attend the General Technical Meeting.
11. Decision Taking Procedures
11.1 Decision to stop a tournament due to weather conditions:
a) The decision to suspend a match and/or a tournament will be based upon if the competition level of the matches can be maintained, if so the matches will continue.
b) The decision to stop a tournament will be at the soul discretion of the Control Committee. Players must stay at the competition area or were otherwise requested, according to the situation, waiting and ready to immediately return to the match when the conditions make it possible.
c) Players will be informed immediately of the decision taken by the Control Committee.
d) The decisions taken by the Control Committee will be based upon the following conditions:
§ Wind. The match will be stopped when the wind is so strong that it does not permit a good competition level.
§ Rain. The match will be stopped when the rain is so strong that it does not permit a good competition level, but the players must be always ready to play under rain.
§ Poor Visibility (day light). The match will be stopped when the daylight does not permit a good level of competition.
Note: Players must be always ready and waiting to return to the match immediately as it is possible.
12. Responsibilities of Participating Players
12.1 The FIVB/NORCECA Constitution, Code of Conduct and Regulations will be applied to all participating players during Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events.
12.2 The registration of participating teams constitutes a voluntary acceptance of the terms and conditions established that will be in force for the Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events.
12.3 In consequence of the established in article 11.1 above, all participants accept the application of the FIVB/NORCECA Constitution, Code of Conduct and Regulation in addition to the sanctions that for violation of the Rules of the Game in Force will be imposed by the referees during the match, as well as, in addition to the sanction to be applied by the disciplinary institutions of FIVB / NORCECA Volleyball Confederation / Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball.
12.4 Disqualifications will be applied to the team, nevertheless sanctions will be applied individually to the player in fault.
12.5 The behavior of participants in the Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events, inside or outside the competition area, must reflect an example of the sport values.
Following this principle all participants must avoid, by all means, aggressive attitudes, antisocial and unsportsmanlike behavior.
12.6 Participants must retain from being involved in bets over the results of a match or tournament of the Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Series. Also, it is not allowed to promise economic compensation or of any other type to players for their performance in a tournament as well as, it is forbidden to agree upon or distribute cash awards.
12.7 Matches must be played without delay and according to the order of the matches established. Players must be always ready to play when called upon. They must enter the competition court at least 15 minutes before the start of the match. Not doing so will be subject to forfeiture of the match due to the player’s non appearance.
12.8 The Technical Director by his own judgment and criteria has the right to accept a valid circumstance that caused the delay if considered appropriate.
12.9 Participating players must conclude the match that they are playing. All unforeseen circumstances that avoid a player to continue in a match will be taken into consideration. The Technical Director of the tournament will decide case by case the situation claimed by the player that avoids his or her participation.
12.10 Players must always be available for press, radio and television interview after each match or when it is required.
12.11 Players must be available to submit themselves to the antidoping test as foreseen and in accordance with the FIVB/NORCECA Medical Code.
12.12 Player must retain from using products, gear and/or equipment that conflicts with Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Sponsors, such as towels, bags, chairs, umbrellas, shirts, caps, sun block creams, tattoos, head band, key chains, backpack, wrist band, arm band, sports drinks, water, juice, colas and any other products that conflicts with the official sponsors of the tournaments in the designated playing, resting and/or competition areas.
12.13 During the tournaments participating team players will be responsible for:
a) To comply with the registration procedure and competition format.
b) To be aware of the time foreseen for their match and the court assigned. This will be achieved by receiving the official information and time schedule of the matches at the technical tent and/or by the information to be announced over the speaker.
c) Participating player must always be ready to play. If for any reason the match played before theirs is cancelled the next scheduled match must be played immediately.
d) Players must warm up prior to their match taking into consideration a maximum time of 15 minutes including the 5 minutes foreseen of the official warm up.
NOTE: Players behavior must be proper at all moments, inside and outside the competition area. Their behavior and conduct must not affect negatively the image and/or be prejudice towards the sponsorship and marketing of the tournaments and/or Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball.
13. Players Image Rights
By their registration and participation, participating players authorize Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball, its authorized agents and/or a third party to use their name, voice, photos, video images and biographic material for the promotion, publicity and marketing of the tournament and of Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events declining the right of compensation. Within these rights it is included the obligation of the players to pose for photographers with or without the official playing uniform of Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball and in front of the official publicity board.
14. Award Ceremony.
Players who are foreseen to participate in the award ceremony due to their performance and/or for any other reason must assist and participate in the ceremony according to the protocol unless the Technical Supervisor excuses them from participating for just cause. In the case that they do not participate without justification they will automatically lose the rights to receive the corresponding award.
15. Ethic and Conduct
15.1 Based upon a professional and responsible behavior philosophy of the player and considering the development of beach volleyball and that Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events depend on the image that the participating players project towards the public and sponsors, all participants (teams, players, officials, court, support and technical personnel, National Federation officials, etc) in Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events must always conduct themselves in a reasonable, acceptable and proper manner, avoiding inappropriate behavior and/or unsportsmanlike conduct that would be prejudice to the image of Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball, the host National Federation of the tournament and/or NORCECA Volleyball Confederation.
15.2 Any offensive behavior according to the terms established in the FIVB/NORCECA Constitution, Code of Conduct and Regulations, the team and/or the player in fault will be sanctioned according to the established scale with its disqualification, suspension, fines and/or cancellation of the award. Additionally:
a) A team could be sanctioned and/or disqualified for not being on time or absent from meetings and/or matches.
b) A team could be disqualified if:- Does not arrive on time for their scheduled match.
c) All sanctions depend on:- Previous faults and seriousness of the fault.
NOTE: Unsportsmanlike and improper behavior, abusive, gross, anti-social and/or aggression will be sanctioned.
16. FIVB Beach Volleyball Official Rules in Force
16.1 The FIVB Beach Volleyball Official Rules in Force 2004-2008, approved and published by FIVB will be the official rules for all the tournaments of Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball events unless it is otherwise stipulated in these regulations taking into consideration the terms and conditions under which the tournaments of Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball are held.
