The countdown is on for this weekend’s Sizzlin Sand Barbados SUNSPLASH the final event of the 2008 Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Open International Series at Brandons beach Spring Garden November 1-2. The best beach volleyball teams from across the Caribbean including teams from Canada will go head to head with the best of Barbados for $ 5,000 USD in total prize money.
Returning to Barbados from Canada to compete in the Ladies Open will be 2004 and 2005 champion Karen Sutherland who teams up with a new partner this time around in Laura Inward who will be making her debut to participate in this event. Also making their debut in Barbados will be another Canadian pair of Kristina Long / Jamie Broder as well as the first Jamaica female team to enter a Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball event Cherine Richards / Cheryl Daley. They can expect keen competition from top local pairs of Sharon Bovell / Anthazia Mason and Lauren Whitehall / Julia Lewis along with 2008 Antigua SUNSPLASH champions Nancy Joseph / Elki Philip of Trinidad and Tobago in what promises to be a very keenly contested Ladies division.
Defending Men’s Barbados SUNSPLASH champions the Jamaica duo of Mark Lewis / Dany Wilson will be here in Barbados intent on posting back to back wins and capturing the Barbados title for a second consecutive year. They however will be hard pressed by the likes of Elwyn Oxley / Gregory Gill who have not tasted a championship victory since dominating the 2006 Sizzlin Sand Beach Volleyball Season when they won every event. Oxley / Gill just missed out on the 2008 Antigua SUNSPLASH title in an enthralling three set final at Jolly Harbour in September to Philippe Pignol / Robin Darchicourt of Guadeloupe and will be pressing for a win on home turf.
Action starts at 10:00 AM on both days with the finals at 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Sunday 2nd, November. Registration forms are available in the registration section.
Completed entry forms must be submitted by all teams before the 4:00 PM deadline on Thursday October 30th, 2008 to be eligible. All registered teams must attend the mandatory technical meeting 7:30 PM at Weisers Beach Bar, Spring Garden Highway.
